This document is aimed at supporting CSPs and their vendors in considering the opportunity and the economic model for deployment of edge data center to support enterprise. The research looks in detail at the opportunity to support enterprises with edge cloud and in particular Infrastructure as a Service. It looks in detail at the economics for CSPs to build cloud IaaS capability at the edge of their networks, examining three scenarios for the CSP to place IaaS at macro cellular base stations, at Central Offices/Exchanges and at Super Central Offices. The reports economic model has been built on concrete data from the UK and has then been extrapolated to describe the worldwide opportunity. This is the follow-on report to ‘Winning at the edge’ from Appledore research.
